E-commerce Firms are the Prime Target of Bad Bots: The Big, Bad Bot Problem Report Q1 2019

2018 marked a year with some of the deadliest cyber attacks in the history of the Internet, GitHub for example. In all these attacks, there was one common factor that cyber attackers used advanced technologies to target organizations. The trend of using cutting-edge technologies to attack businesses is continued in 2019 as well.

Recently we studied traffic on thousands of anonymized web properties to understand the origin of bad bots, the automated attack landscape, industry-wide impact, and common targets of bad bots in Q1 2019. We published the observations in our recently released The Big, Bad Bot Problem Report Q1 2019.

The report reveals some insightful yet surprising results:

  • In Q1 2019, most of bad bots originated from the US.
  • Bad bots are on the rise across industries. 21.5% of the total traffic was bad bots in Q1 2019.
  • E-commerce websites have the highest percentage of bad bot traffic (23.4%), followed by marketplaces and classifieds portals.
