On December 5, 2018, Gartner released its annual Cool Vendors in the API Economy report, focused on the topic of securing APIs. The report aims to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services.
Gartner has named ShieldSquare as a Cool Vendor. Gartner states that “As the API economy scales, firms must manage all the APIs they use across multiple providers, while protecting the APIs they deliver.”
Gartner further states that “The growth in the number of APIs means greater API security issues. Gartner anticipates that, by 2022, API abuses will be the most frequent malicious attack, resulting in data breaches for enterprise web applications and new user interactions. “Leaky APIs,” which are APIs that don’t adequately protect data from unauthorized access, have impacted organizations through data breaches and adverse publicity.” The report recommends that application leaders in charge of API programs and modernizing their integration architecture and platforms should “implement bot protection for APIs. Ensure that this protection extends to all APIs that are publicly delivered, including those used in the context of mobile or web applications.”
“To us, we’re delighted to be named as a “Cool Vendor in API Economy,” says Pavan Thatha, Co-founder and CEO, ShieldSquare. “APIs are vulnerable to automated attacks. We believe that API security is not a one-time exercise. As new APIs are being added and consumed by businesses at an ever-increasing rate, it is essential to detect malicious requests in each and every API call.”
ShieldSquare’s bot mitigation for API solution gathers historical data as it processes tens of billions of API calls every month and combines that data with proprietary Intent-based Deep Behavior Analysis to detect and filter malicious API calls.
