Gartner’s annual Hype Cycles are attempts to
educate organizations about the business value of
emerging technologies and concepts within the
contexts of industry and enterprise’s appetite for risk.

This year’s application security hype cycle identified 7 technologies that are at the Peak of Inflated Expectations. 3 of these 7 technology trends will become mainstream in 5-10 years of time. Bot Management is one of such technologies that have been given High Benefit Ratings by Gartner.

Bots have existed for more than 10 years in form of good bots, such as search engine crawlers. As per Gartner’s findings, now bots are being employed to abuse mobile and web apps for nefarious applications, such as content scraping, fraud, and scalping.

Analysts Jeremy D’Hoinne & Ramon Krikken advise two key considerations while evaluating stand-alone bot mitigation solutions – a) Look at advanced capabilities to detect bots b) Explore the number of possibilities to respond to malicious bots. Few response actions could be- blocking, feeding different data or limiting.

ShieldSquare is one of the top vendors in Bot Management space driving this new and emerging market forward from the last couple of years. At ShieldSquare, our focus has always been to think way ahead than intelligent and malicious bots by applying avant-garde techniques- such as unique device/browser fingerprinting, user behavior analysis, collective bot intelligence and machine learning techniques to reduce false negatives.

Gartner clearly pointed out that since automated attacks intend to abuse business logic, buyers of bot management solutions can be business functions other than security groups/leaders. We agree. To deliver quick results to business groups, we understand that deployment and testing of bot mitigation solutions should quickly take place. Our bot mitigation solution can be deployed into diverse open-source and proprietary technology infrastructures within minutes.

In addition to being an industry leader in low latency and zero-false positives, ShieldSquare has delivered immediate results to many global online brands from different industry verticals, such as E-Commerce, Healthcare, Classifieds, Media & Publishing and Travel.

If you are responsible for securing content, ensuring competitive pricing, reducing infrastructure cost, keeping the analytics clean or protecting the ad revenue streams, we recommend you to go through the Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Application Security, 2017. The report is full of insights driven from industry trends. Your organization can get immense value from these recommendations by acting on them right away.
